Rothbury is straddling the lovely River Croquet, it is home of the Northumberland National Park Visitors Centre, which can supply information on all the best local walking trails. The surrounding moor side is wild and craggy, which makes it a popular spot with climbers too.
The village has a picturesque riverside aspect and is backed by dramatic hills. It has a good range of accommodation for the weary traveller.
Four miles from the town is Brinkburn Priory, which was founded by Augustinian Canons around 1135 and while the church is all that remains of the Priory it is regarded as one of the finest examples of Northumbrian transitional architecture.
