Directly to the west of Sheffield are the Peak District National Park and the Pennines Hill range, which makes a dramatic backdrop behind the city. Much of the city is built on hillsides with views either into the city or out to the countryside.
Sheffield offers various attractions around the city, like the City Museum, the Mappin Art Gallery and Graves Art Gallery there are also the Millennium Gallery and Winter Gardens and the National Centre for Popular Music, which offers a very hands (and ears) on approach to discovering pop.
The Botanical Gardens were created in 1836, they are well worth a visit, the gardens offer a beautiful collection of shrubs, trees and wild flowers, a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the peace and tranquillity.
