The celebrated furniture maker Thomas Chippendale was born in the town in 1718 and J.W. Turner was a regular visitor to Otley when he was in the area, painting its great beauty. For more information on the towns history and famous connections visit the Otley Museum in the Civic Centre at Cross Green.
The Navvies Memorial in the All Saints church was built in memory of the men who lost their lives whilst building the Bramhope tunnel, between 1846 and 1849, which covers the Leeds and Thirsk railway track and stretches over 2 miles.
