Though it does not fall within the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Nidderdale is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which offers diverse landscapes ranging from gently sloping farmlands to imposing high fells and spectacular under ground caves.
North of Ripley, set on a moor side nearly 300 meters above sea level is the fantastic spectacle of Brimham Rocks. This bizarre collection of rocks, which are said to resemble mushrooms, hippos and a dancing bear amongst other things, are scattered over a 50-acre site with commanding views of the valley below.
The Nidderdale museum illustrates the life and history of the Dalesfolk. It has wonderful series' of displays including a reconstructed coblers shop, general store and chemist, so this is a museum the kids will enjoy!
