Tadcaster is a famous market town in North Yorkshire; it is famous for beer and brewing, which has been going on here since the 14th century. Sam Smith is the town’s oldest brewery dating from 1758, John Smiths entered the fray in 1847 and in 1883 the Tower brewery joined them.
Tadcaster’s hard limestone water produces a distinctive bright, clear bitter, which Yorkshire folk will tell you is the best in the world. We suggest that you go straight to the Beer Guide for an honest and scientific appraisal of the nation’s ales but please spare a thought for the poor soul, who had to taste them all.
Whilst in the area check out the Tadcaster Markets, there on every Thursday and sell a great range of produce.
