Halifax in its heyday was an extremely prosperous wool town and this is never more conspicuous than at the magnificent Italianate colonnaded 18th century Piece Hall, which today houses a textile museum, an art gallery and shops.
The town has a relatively new visitor attraction in the shape of the Eureka! Museum for Children, which is the only one in the country, dedicated to children under 11years old. With over 400 must-touch exhibits and a full programme of events and activities the kids will be entertained for hours!
In keeping with its strong textiles tradition Halifax is home to an internationally recognised collection of textiles and costumes, which is housed at the Bankfield Museum in an elaborate Italianate mansion that belonged to a wealthy Victorian mill owner.
