There are two main areas in Leeds that have been transformed by the redevelopment projects of the last decade; the Victorian Quarter, home to Harvey Nichols et al and the canal waterfront.
The city has many grand, old civic buildings, as well as a wealth of galleries and museums. Queen Victoria opened the Town Hall in 1858 and the Civic Hall, the Town Hall was the acclaimed work of architect Cuthberth Broderick. Armley Mill was once the largest woollen mill in the world and is now an award winning industrial museum.
The City Art Gallery features many impressive collections covering the disciplines of watercolour & oil paintings, sculpture and modern art. Theatres include the Grand and the West Yorkshire Playhouse, which both attract internationally acclaimed productions.
Like most other northern towns and cities, they take their football very seriously in Leeds and Leeds United rule supreme.Photos
