Hull, or Kingston-upon-Hull as it is officially known, has been an important seaport for 900 years and closely still associates itself with its maritime past with the sea and seafaring featuring in its visitor attractions, many of which are free.
The Deep, is an impressive aquarium where you will enter Europe’s largest sub marine viewing tunnel and see sharks, stingrays and a host of other marine life and learn about the ocean’s past, present and future.
The Maritime Museum (which is free entry) tells the story of the town's role as a whaling station in the 18th and 19th centuries, including a whale skeleton and blubber cauldron among its relics as well as excellent photographs. If you want to see more of the town's history visit the High Street with its merchants houses and cobbled streets, now designated as a Museums Quarter.
