The Wolds

The Yorkshire Wolds are a series of gently sloping chalk hills that extend from the Humber Estuary to Flamborough Head and until the creation of the Wolds Way National Trail they were among Yorkshires best-kept secrets.

The walk covers a 79-mile route that extends from Kingston-upon-Hull in the south to Filey in the north and takes in some beautiful, sleepy villages and lovely countryside along the way. The highest point in the Wolds stands a mere 200 metres above sea level, so it is ideal terrain for walkers and cyclists.

There are numerous attractive villages dotted about the country but some of the better known ones include Middleton-on-the-Wolds where rows of cottages flank the roadside, Foston-on the-Wolds with its grand homes and medieval church, Great Driffield, 'capital of the Wolds' and finally in the north Burton Agnes, where you will find the grand Elizabethan House, Burton Agnes Hall.
