Silloth is a coastal resort on the English side of the Solway Firth with views over to the Scottish hills of Dumfries & Galloway.
Silloth and its surrounding towns provide an alternative to the mountains and lakes which are all around. To explore the other towns take a trip on L'aal Ratty - a 7 mile train ride to the foot of England's highest fells.
A word of warning about the area: the tide comes in very fast and so it is extremely unwise to walk out too far at low tide. The views over the Solway and sunsets are the real joy of the town and were painted by the celebrated landscape artist, J.M.Turner.
