Chester is located among rich, rolling countryside at the base of a spur of land. The Romans to built their largest fortification in the country here to deter raids from the Welsh or attacks from the sea.

Like all-important historic cities Chester has a castle and a cathedral, though little remains of the original castle as it was largely demolished in the 18th century to make way for Thomas Harrison’s Court of Assizes and Council Offices. The cathedral survived rather better though it converted from a Benedictine Abbey to a cathedral in 1540.

These days Chester is at the social and economic heart of Cheshire: its historic buildings and unspoilt character make a fantastic backdrop for cashed up classes to go about their business. Chester claims to be the nation’s second shopping centre after London and while the cities of Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester and Nottingham might dispute that fact, a glance at the stockist list of any glossy mag will confirm, Chester is up there with the best of them.
