Douglas is the capital of the Isle of Man and is where parliament meets at the House of Keys. It is a pleasant, almost continental resort with wide promenades and inviting sands.
From Douglas you can catch a steam train to Port Erin in the south, which is one of the island’s scuba diving hotspots. A small island off the south coast, the Calf of Man, is accessible from Port Erin and features a bird sanctuary, though it is closed in the breeding season.
