Barnoldswick is an historic market town. In the early 12th century the monks of Fountains Abbey founded a monastery but the locals did not welcome this move and the monks decided to relocate to Kirkstall and complete their plans for an Abbey there. More than a generation later the monks finally built a church, St Mary-le-Gill, just outside the town centre.
Have a relaxing family day out at the Letcliffe Country Park with a lovely picnic and play area the whole family will be happy. The park has outstanding views all over the Yorkshire Dales and is easy to reach from the town.
In 1997 the town centre was recognised as a conservation area and so a became a great town to visit for its heritage and unspoilt feel.
