To the east of Clitheroe in the Lower Ribble Valley is Pendle Hill, made famous by the Pendle Witches, who were sentenced to death at Lancaster Castle in 1612.
The Pendle Witches Trail takes you on some of the most beautiful countryside in Britain. It starts in Barrowford and goes through Pendle and the Ribble Valley, ending at Lancaster Castle.
George Fox had a vision on the hill, which led to the formation of the Quaker movement some forty years later. The area is now popular with hill walkers, hang gliders and skiers as there is a dry ski slope.
