Originally a linen trade centre, Banbridge is a town spanning the River Bann, now a cultural and heritage rich area that will capture the interest of history fans in particular.
The township itself contains an interesting monument depicting polar bears, commemorating Captain Francis Crozier, who died on an Arctic expedition and an interesting bridge at the top of the main road.
In the surrounding area, there are many cultural places of interest, such as Castlewellan Forest Park, the megalithic monument Legananny Dolmen and Slieve Croob, all between Banbridge and Downpatrick. Patrick Bronte, father of the famous Bronte author sisters Anne, Emily and Charlotte, was born in the area too.
