The 5th largest city in Ireland, Derry is bursting with cultural history. Its city walls were built in the early 17th century and were the last city walls to be built in Europe. The Tower Museum located just inside the city walls at Magazine Gate is a must, as is wandering around looking at the almost entirely in tact wall itself.

Greatly influenced by the tragic Bogside event that has become known as ‘Bloody Sunday’ and in the same style as the infamous murals in Belfast, there are murals commemorating the conflict history that can be seen at Free Derry Corner. You can even visit the Bogside Artist’s Studio and discover the stories behind the pictures.

Derry has a lively pub scene with great live music and good ‘craic’. It’s a great base for exploring Donegal’s Inishowen Peninsula and the theatrical stone fort GrianGrianan of Aileach.
