Alexandria is the largest town in the Vale of Leven, located just 2 miles south of Loch Lomond.
Over the last 100 years, the various villages of Renton, Balloch, Jamestown and Bonhill have merged into one urban area, although each one retains its own individuality.
The town grew in the 19th century and The Argll Motor Works was the largest car production in Europe between 1905 and 1913; now it houses a motor museum.
