Although it doesn't have the pretty stone curl of harbour Anstruther is no less picturesque than neighbouring Crail. The bigger of the two, it seems somehow less overtly affected by the comings and goings of the visitors upon which it now relies.
The uninspiringly named Scottish Fisheries Museum is actually an interesting exploration of life in these small fishing communities, something that hasn't changed dramatically for years, and features a classic fisherman's cottage.
Boat tours run from both Anstruther and Crail to the Isle of May, a nature reserve with wonderful bird life and seals just off the coast.
