Kinross is in a beautiful part of Scotland, with Perthshire next door, this makes it ideal for hill walking. It is also very popular for golf, cycling, fishing, bird watching or just relaxing and enjoying the beauty of Scotland.
Kinross is not a large place but has plenty to interest visitors; the town boasts some lovely architecture. Robert Adam’s tollbooth and Kinross House by Sir William Bruce, the architect responsible for Holyrood House in Edinburgh should not be missed.
Just outside the town is Loch Leven, which is a renowned trout fishing spot and also attracts a variety of bird life including rare breeds of ducks and geese. On an island in the middle of the Loch is Loch Leven Castle, where Mary Queen of Scots was once imprisoned. She escaped from her island fortress by charming an eighteen-year-old boy into helping her escape; he took her the castle keys and arranged a boat to row her to shore.
