Logierait is a village in the north of Perthshire, standing on peninsula between the Tummel River and Scotland's longest river, the Tay. The village has a colourful history, being the birthplace of the sociologist Adam Ferguson and Alexander Mackenzie, a local stonemason who went on to become Prime Minister of Canada in 1873.
The Church at Logierait was founded by St Cedd around 650 and is well worth a visit. A Pictish cross in the churchyard is thought to be over 1000 years old. There are tombstones over 300 years old depicting early biblical scenes.
Near the village of Logierait in Perthshire is the ‘Ash Tree of the Boat of Logierait’, which, is believed to have been ‘ the dool tree of the district, on which caitiffs and robbers were formerly executed, and their bodies left hanging till they dropped and lay around unburied.’
