To get right off the beaten track and take the route less travelled by mainstream tourists, head to Glen Affric.
This is a delightful contrast to other more Loch Ness monster obsessive areas, rather a quiet retreat characterised by its narrow winding roads, forests of Caledonian pine, flowing streams and grand scenery.
Glen Affric is known as one of the most stunning landscapes in Scotland. If you have extra time on hand, it is well worth spending a day or two picnicking in the sun or freely wandering the wilderness.
