Finishing in Fort William, the West Highland Way is one of Britain's most famous walks. Starting just north of Glasgow it meanders across the southern Highlands for 95 miles to Fort William at the base of Ben Nevis, Britain's highest mountain.
Following a series of old cattle drovers paths, military roads, disused railway lines it is for the most part good solid walking without being perilously difficult. There are a few steep climbs, but more often than not the paths snake between peaks rather than climbing them.
As with all long British walking paths, the whole walk can be done over a series of days or just a part can be enjoyed.
