Although Harris and Lewis is theoretically one island (their division being traced back to the break up of the MacLeod clan), Harris is by far a more majestic and attractive location. The BBC reality show Castaway was filmed on a small island off the south of Harris called Taransay.
Dramatic hills plunge into aqua waters, while barren boulder capped landscape paints a picture of an inhospitable and wild land in the north. The south of Harris is a calmer affair, with undulating hills and gentle shores.
Harris does not prosper on the same industry as Lewis and is suffering as the somewhat poorer cousin. For the visitors, there is a wealth of beauty to indulge upon and many interesting sites that are worth visiting.
