Although somewhat isolated and extreme in Atlantic weather turns, Westray may be the most favourable of the Northern Isles.
Westray is a prosperous local hang, and offers the most diverse attractions for visitors, from archaeological sites, sandy beaches and stunning farmland to impressive (RSPB reserve) sea cliffs, fabulous local seafood and produce and the 6th century Noltland Castle ruins.
The prior Viking base of Pierowall is the main village of the island and has a gorgeous harbour and a character-fuelled atmosphere.
