Musselburgh is an attractive fishing town on the Firth of Forth at the mouth of the River Esk. Every autumn the local fishermen take part in Walks of Thanksgiving for their catches. Musselburgh is probably best known as a golf centre and they claim that the Musselburgh Links is the oldest playing golf course in the world.

North Berwick is a popular resort on the Lothian coast, famous for golfing and sailing. The town is dominated by North Berwick Law, a 600ft.+ peak formed from igneous rock, which served as a signal station during the Napoleonic wars. On the top is whalebone arch and there are great views of all the local attractions, such as Bass Rock and the Lammermuir Hills.

Bass Rock and its satellite islands lie about a mile off the coast in the Firth of Forth and these days the only inhabitants are birds, though there has been a monastery, a fortress and a manned lighthouse on Bass down the ages. You can take boat trips around the islands and spot the gannets razorbills, terns, puffins, guillemots and fulmars.
