Standing on a rocky headland just inside the Scottish border, Dunbar is an attractive resort town, located on the southeast coast of Scotland, approximately 28 miles east of Edinburgh.
A popular holiday destination, Dunbar has broad sandy beaches, and two harbours used by pleasure craft and fishing boats. The town has a long history and some notable historic buildings, including the remains of Dunbar Castle, and the Town House, which was formerly a prison, now home to a local history centre.
Dunbar is a good base from which to explore the Scottish coastline with it's beautiful unspoilt beaches and Lammermuir Hills, which offer excellent walking trails. The West Promenade is a memorable a cliff-top walk, part of the John Muir Trail, which takes in the John Muir Country Park, the East Links children’s farm and model railway and the famous Binning Woods. Dunbar has two excellent golf courses, an all-year indoor swimming pool and a sports centre. Fishing trips are also available in season (March-September).
