Kingston is a small hamlet situated near North Berwick in East Lothian, Scotland. Founded in 1784, the village, whose full name is Kingston-upon-Spey, was named after Kingston-upon-Hull in East Yorkshire. Beyond Kingston lies only the open waters of the North Sea, with the River Spey to the east and to the west the large semi-wilderness of the Lossie Forest covers over 5 miles of the coast to Lossiemouth.
The village consists of rows of attractive low houses and cottages, sheltered by the shingle mounds that form the north facing coast. Formally home to shipbuilding docks, the river Spey is now a fantastic spot for bird watchers, with stunning views across to Spey Bay.
Fenton Tower in Kingston is an exclusive 16th century tower which has been converted to a luxury hotel. Well known as the location for Archie's castle in the BBC children's programme "Balamory", many Tower guests visit the area to play golf at the nearby world-class courses such as Muirfield and the North Berwick West Links.
