Coldstream is located on a stretch of the River Tweed that forms a natural boundary between Scotland and England. The whole border region was afflicted during the years of border strife but nowhere more so than Coldstream.
Coldstream Museum is tucked away in the towns market square, they have many varied temporary exhibitions but amongst the permanent displays include 'Second to None’, which is the history of the Coldstream Guards from their formation to the present day.
The warring armies continually forded the river and most used this route to launch their attacks to the north or south. Each year on Thursday, in the first full week of August, a procession makes its way from Coldstream over the border to Flodden as a mark of respect for all the Scots who lost their lives in the slaughter.
