The Ayrshire coast is quite lovely; wide sandy beaches are sheltered by the islands of Aran, Bute and Argyll out in the Firth of Clyde and a backbone of hills to the east. Furthermore, this stretch of coastline lies in the Gulf Stream and enjoys a much milder climate than you would expect.

Culzean Castle & Country Park is the National Trust for Scotland’s most visited attraction. Probably the finest Robert Adam house in Scotland, it sits on a cliff-top perch overlooking the Firth of Clyde.

Further north is Largs, a popular yachting resort and home to the award winning Vikingar attraction. The town is sheltered by hills that reach 1700ft and the surrounding waters are sometimes as flat as millpond, which is good news if you feel like taking one of the ferries that cruise the Firth of Clyde and the islands.

Ayrshire is a great place to enjoy outdoor pursuits like walking, cycling, trekking and of course golf. Open golf has its origins here and within the area are Turnberry, Troon & Prestwick. In Scotland it is possible for visitors to play on some of the world famous courses, as most clubs allow non-members to pay a green fee and play.
