The most important harbour on the west coast of Scotland for many centuries, Ayr has become a popular seaside resort with plenty of activities for visitors.
Ayr has many fine historic buildings to explore including the Town Hall with its remarkable spire, nearby Wallace Tower, which dates back to 1833, and Loudoun Hall, a magnificent restoration of Scotland's oldest merchant's house, built in 1513. The birthplace of Robert Burns, the National Poet of Scotland, is situated some two miles from Ayr and you can learn about his life and work at Burns Cottage and Museum.
Other attractions include Ayr Racecourse, which dates back to 1770, Ayr Farm Park and Wonderwest World, a centre of water-based fun for all the family. During the month of September, the Ayr Festival runs entertainment and activities, which draw visitors and enthusiasts from far and wide.
