Glasgow owes its prestige as the second city in the British Empire to the shipping and industry days of the Clyde. A visit to the Clyde's banks bears little semblance to its former hustle and bustle industrial past. Shipbuilding is hidden away to a couple of yards while the odd crumbling warehouses seems more of a ghost town. Glitz has moved in.
The riverbank is shedding its under-utilised recent history and rebirthing itself to become a location of great focus and activity. Numerous attractions such as the Science Centre, the Armadillo (concert hall) and the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre have drawn grand attention. Glasgow is celebrating this unique river that is found in the city centre and by rejuvenating and revamping the banks to suit a new purpose.
"The Clyde made Glasgow and Glasgow made the Clyde" the age-old saying speaks for itself.
