Rye in East Sussex is the quintessential Medieval English town. Visiting this town is an absolute must, with its half timbered houses and cobbled streets it is perfectly preserved and untainted by the large amount of tourists that descend upon it in the summer months.
Attractions include the wonderful 'olde worlde' cobbled Mermaid Street, the 18th century Lamb House, one time home of the author Henry James. The Church of St Mary has the oldest turret clock in England and great views from its tower.
The Ypres Tower and The Rye Castle Museum are an interesting step back in time and for the keen hiker the 1066 walk travels from Rye to join the South Downs Way in all its splendour.
