The Isle of Portland produces England’s finest building stone and has been used in some of the world’s great landmark buildings. It also boasts a huge manmade harbour, which is known as one of the best places in the country for water-sports. Weymouth is a lovely coastal town with a wide sweeping front, little changed since the days when King George III and his retinue used to frollic in the sea. If gorgeous beaches are your thing, head for the clear, blue waters and white sands of Lulworth Cove – you won’t be disappointed.
