Faversham is an attractive, medieval town where ancient buildings huddle round the market place, there are over 475 listed buildings in total. The townsfolk claim to have, ‘Kent’s finest medieval road’ in Abbey Street, where there is undoubtedly an interesting selection of buildings, the most venerable being a chemist shop dating from 1240.
Faversham is home to Kent’s oldest brewery, Shepherd Neame and you can learn about the town’s brewing history and the Kent hop-gardens that sprang up after continental migrants brought with them a taste for beer made with hops, rather than the malt only ‘ale’ Britons had enjoyed previously.
The North Kent coast has great sandy beaches, which are relatively safe, clean bathing and some of the UK’s best figures for sunshine hours and rainfall. The resorts all have a slightly different atmosphere and between them offer something to suit most tastes.
