Ramsgate is a busy continental ferry port and hovercraft terminal that still retains an air of dignified grandeur about it. Like Broadstairs and Margate it is on a spur of land that is known as the Isle of Thanet, which was in Saxon times separated from the mainland by the River Wensum.
It is an area of great historical significance, as Professor Green put it in his 'Short History of the English People' "It is on the shore of the Isle of Thanet that English History begins."
At the marina at Ramsgate Royal Harbour you will find a great selection of cafes, restaurants and bars.
