For the sunniest spot in the UK and an ideal place to enjoy the sea and explore the West Sussex countryside, visit the quirky Bognor Regis.
The area originally found it's roots as a fishing and smuggling village until the 18th century, when it was converted England's first purpose built resort town by Richard Hotham. The property mogul Hotham bought most of the area (that was originally named Bognor) and built himself a sumptuous residence at Hotham Park House, where he entertained royalty and nobility until his death in 1799.
These days it is a typical family resort offering miles of firm, flat sand next to shallow waters, beachside chalets, a Butlins holiday camp and a pier.
