Crickhowell (Crucywel) is a small market town on the River Usk, which makes a pretty base from which to do some walking in the Black Mountains or just enjoy the scenery. Table Mountain (1481ft) and Pen Cerrig-calch (2302ft) are both good hikes. There are some good places to stay and some great little eateries.
Crickhowell bridge is also an interesting phenomena wrapped in local ledgend - if you stand at the eastern end of the town's broad 17th century bridge you can count 13 arches. Do the same from the other side, its western end, and there are now only 12. Where is the missing arch?
