A beautiful small rural village, nestling in the Towy valley. On the edge of the Crychan Forest and the Brecon Beacons National Park. Cynghordy offers an idyllic setting for all visitors, with a stop at the train station and the Viaduct a must.
The station is located at street level at the end of a gravel track off a lane that is just off the main A483 road. After departing this station heading northbound, the train crosses the Cynghordy Viaduct where panoramic views of the surrounding countryside can be seen. There are four trains a day in each direction from Monday to Saturday, and two services on Sundays. This is a request stop, whereby passengers have to signal to the driver to board or alight from the train.
The Viaduct offers spectacular photo opportunities. This extraordinary 18 arched stone-built structure carries the ’Heart of Wales’ railway line from Cynghordy’s picturesque little station into the Sugar Loaf Tunnel and on through Mid Wales to Shrewsbury. It is an unforgettable journey through amazingly beautiful countryside.
