Llanwrtyd Wells, on the River Irfon, has the distinction of being the smallest town in Britain. It was once a spa town, in many ways the most pleasant of them. It has a rich cultural history, having been the site of the "eisteddfodau" (Welsh festivals of music and poetry).
This tradition of creativity and diversity lives on today, albeit in a slightly different guise. The Neuadd Arms pub hosts a number of eccentric and wonderful competitions and festivals each year.
Nowadays it is recognised as a base for exploring the wild plateau of central Wales and a centre for outdoor activities like mountain biking, pony trekking, hill walking, rallying, fishing and bird watching. The people here are proud of their heritage and the Welsh language is widely spoken.
