Largely undeveloped, the fiercely Welsh Lleyn Peninsular is a peaceful place with sandy beaches, walks and cycling. 3km off the tip, the nature reserve of Bardsey Island has been a site of pilgrimage since early Christian times and offers accomodation as well as retreats. Anglesey, mainly flat, boasts the longest place name in Britain. Its rugged coastline can be explored along the North Anglesey Heritage Walk. Portmeirion is famous for its unique Italianate resort built around a central plazza, but it can get busy in summer.
