South Anglesey can also boast having the village with the longest place name in Britain – Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, or Llanfair PG as it is known.
The place name is a surprising, early example of regional promotion; the name was given in the late 1800s with the soul aim of attracting tourists.
Despite the hype, there is actually nothing to do at Llanfair PG, but you will certainly want to have your photo taken by a sign (the station is popular and has a helpful pronunciation guide written underneath). There is a decent tourist office if you need some inspiration.
