New Quay has the glorious honour of being the inspiration behind Llareggub in Dylan Thomas masterpiece, Under Milk Wood. It is not the only place to stake a claim however and Dylan Thomas' own hometown of Laugharne also contends the title.
The town has a ramshackle tumbling feeling of old pastel Victorian terraces and a gentle stone harbour. There is very little to do, nothing particular happens (apart from the vast influx of tourists over the summer), but the town ticks along, just as it should.
New Quay is divided into upper and lower town. The lower town comprises of the harbour and a number of seaside shops, pubs and cafes; there is also a small sandy beach, which becomes rocky New Quay Head, from where there is a path to Bird Rock.
