Montgomery may be Welsh in location, but it is English in name and English in nature. It is a very pleasant, mainly Georgian, town with some fine buildings and streets and, of course, an obligatory castle.
Montgomery also has a pretty town hall and a 13th century church, the Church of St. Nicholas.
Montgomery is probably the best spot from which to explore Offa's Dyke. If you don't want to embark on the full 177-mile length then there is a particularly pleasant stretch form here, which can be explored for a day's hiking.
