The Ogwen Valley lies between the Carneddau and Glyder mountain ranges. This area houses some of Snowdonia's most challenging climbs. One such mountain is Tryfan in the Glyders and has not one but three peaks, this doesn't deter many climbers however, but you must be experienced and prepared.
Near Tryfan is the miniscule 'village' of Idwal Cottage. This marks the begining of many of the areas walks; one of the easier of these is the hike to Cwm Idwal, here you will find the tranquil Llyn Idwal, which leads to devils kitchen.
Arctic-alpine plants have been found in this area, which provided the catalyst to bestow the honour of the first nature reserve in Wales on the site. A little further into the reserve are the picturesque Rhaeadr Ogwen (Ogwen Falls).
