Bridgend is situated at the place where the Ogmore, Garw and Llynfi valleys meet. It is an ancient market town and history lover's dream with the 12th century ruin of the Newcastle Castle overlooking the River Ogmore, a nearby example of a Norman defensive monastery and the ruins of Coity Castle, which dates from the 14th century.
The town has windy pedestrianised streets with quaint shops amidst its houses and cottages as well as the modern Rhiw shopping centre.
The site occupied by the current Post Office used to be the Old Town Hall and was where the Provision's Market was held until 1836, including the livestock market, acting as an open-air abbattoire right in the centre of town.
