Gower Peninsula

The Gower Peninsula lies to the south west of Swansea and is one of Wales' most popular destinations for walkers, beach lovers, surfers and families alike. Blessed with an oustanding coastline and beaches. Oxley Bay Oxwich Bay on the southern coast was recently Voted Britains Best Beach. Awarded by respected travel writers who had visited and researched over a thousand beaches worldwide. The Gower Peninsula was the first ever place in Britain to be designated an area of outstanding natural beauty and has an immense history as the area has been inhabited by man for at least 30,000 years.

The Gower Peninsula offers a diverse number of attractions including rugged surf lashed coast, castles, pre-historic standing stones, iron age fortifications, castles, medieval churches, caves, beaches and hills. The land around Rhossili was famously described by Wales's favourite poet, Dylan Thomas, as"rubbery, gull-limed grass, the sheep-pilled stones, the pieces of bones and feathers".

Shops, bars, restaurants, cafes and services can be found at Mumbles (derived from the French word for breasts, "mamelles", in reference to the two small islands off the coast at Mumbles Head). The Mumbles Mile, lined with pubs, is one of Wales's legendary pub crawls.
