Port Talbot, south east of Swansea along the coast, underwent the same process of industrialisation at approximately the same time as its near neighbour.
The Talbot family instigated this process in the 18th century and now the skyline is dominated by smoke stacks and cooling towers.
Afan Forest Park is a 10,000-acre parkland where you can enjoy walking, mountain biking, pony trekking and checking out the museum. The park also has a bbq area and a camping ground. It provides 50 miles of guided walking trails so if your into hiking this is a great place to stay whilst in the area.
