Carmarthen is the largest city in West Wales, and its Welsh name Caerfyrddin, means Merlins city, as legend has it that the wizard Merlin of Arthurian legend was born here. The town has an impressive collection of historic buildings, the most famous being the castle ruins, and the Guildhall. The Carmarthenshire Museum is a great source of information on the locality.
