Not to be confused with its much larger namesake in Gwent, Newport (Trefdraeth) is a gorgeous little coastal town, with a distinctly Welsh flavour. It can be a popular place in mid summer.
Newport has two main beaches, one on either side of the Afon Nyler estuary. On the town side, Parrog is much the smaller of the two while the endless sands of Traethmawr can be reached across the bridge in town.
The town itself doesn't have obvious attractions as such, but it is a lovely place to stop and there are some interesting spots nearby, such as the Neolithic burial chambers of Carreg Coetan Arthur and Pentre Ifan. The best way to appreciate Newport however; is to use it as a base for exploring the surrounding countryside.
If you just want a stroll, there is a peaceful walk along the banks of the River Nevern known as the Pilgrim's Way. This is also a good base for exploring the broad vistas of the Preseli Hills inland. You can hire bikes in town if you're in the mood to venture further afield. Other local walks include Carn Ingli, the Hill of Angels and the Gwuan Valley.
