Llanelli

Llanelli is the largest town in southeast Dyfed on the south coast of Wales. Going east it is the first industrialised town of a sweep that contains Bridgend, Cardiff, Swansea & Port Talbot.

Llanelli has been involved in the coal trade since the 17th century but it wasn’t until the late 17th century that the industry really flourished with the development of the pit engine that allowed working deep, deep down in the pits. Tinplating was the next major industry to come to Llanelli and it took place in the largest mill in Britain. Latterly steelworks have been part of the industrial landscape of the town.

Llanelli has a decent sandy beach, although one more suited to lying back with a book than tearing around on the surf; nearby Bryncaerau Castle houses the Parc Howard Museum and Art Gallery.
